Huis nos cuentan las claves de su último disco de rock progresivo

Huis son una banda de Quebec que comenzó su carrera en 2009 y que desde entonces ha marcado su camino en el rock progresivo. Les entrevistamos para que nos contasen los secretos de su último disco.

– Habéis editado A huis clos, vuestro quinto álbum. ¿Cuándo lo grabasteis?

Fue durante la pandemia. Nos pareció una manera adecuada de mantenernos activos. La sugerencia de grabar varias versiones fue de Johnny Maz, nuestro teclista, y las fuimos subiendo a Youtube.

– Mezcláis esas versiones con vuestros propios temas. ¿Es un tributo a bandas como Genesis, Deep Purple o Rush o un truco para demostrar que vuestra música está al mismo nivel que la de los clásicos?

Es más un tributo a las bandas que más nos han inspirado. También cambiamos de batería y quisimos darles a nuestras canciones un toque más fresco.

– ¿Cuál es tu tema favorito del disco?

Como fan de Rush, estoy orgulloso de cómo nos ha quedado «Between the wheels». También me gustan mucho nuestras propias canciones. Suenan muy bien.

– ¿Crees que estáis reconocidos por la escena internacional del rock progresivo más allá de Canadá?

Sí. Estamos muy impresionados de cómo nos recibieron en Europa. Tocamos en Holanda en junio de 2025 como cabezas de cartel y volveremos seguro.

– ¿Echas de manos más apoyo a bandas como la tuya? Quiero decir, tenéis mucho talento el disco está perfectamente producido y mezclado, pero no es fácil veros de gira por Europa o incluso escuchar vuestros discos (os descubrí en Spotify). ¿Ha muerto el rock como dijo Gene Simmons?

No te voy a negar que es duro. Hay muchos grupos, pero creo que lo mejor es editar la mejor música posible. Así es como podemos conseguir algo. Nos gusta cómo están yendo las cosas para nosotros ahora mismo. Seguiremos tocando en directo y editando música.

– ¿Habéis tocado alguna vez en España? ¿Os gustaría?

Todavía no hemos tocado, pero estamos negociando una gira por Europa y España es uno de los países por los que queremos pasar.

– ¿Qué le dirías a alguien que nunca ha escuchado vuestra música?

Que nos de una oportunidad. Se que es complicado escuchar todo lo que se publica en el mundo del rock progresivo, pero quizá descubras algo inesperado.

– You just released your fifth album À huis clos. When did you record it?
We did it during the pandemic lockdown. It was an easy way to stay active. The suggestion for making covers was by our keyboard player, Johnny Maz. We released them on youtube.

– You mix some covers with your own songs. Is it a tribute to bands like Genesis, Deep Purple or Rush or a kind of trick to show that your own stuff is at the same level of the mentioned bands?
It’s a tribute. Our most inspirationnal bands of all of us. Also, we just had a new drummer and wanted to give a fresh sound of some of our songs.

– Which are your fauvorite songs from the album?
As a Rush fan, I’m very proud of our Between the Wheels. I also like very much our new songs rerecording. They sound so good!

– Do you feel recognized by the progresive rock fans far beyond Canada?
We are very impressed by the reception in Europe. We played our first headline show there in June 2025, in the Netherlands. We will come back for sure.

– Do you miss more support to bands like yours? I mean, you are so talented, the album is perfectly produced and mixed, but it´s not so easy to see you playing live in Europe, for example, or even listening to your albums (I found you thanks to Spotify in a weekly playlist). Where is the problem? Is the rock dead as Gene Simmons said?
I can’t hide that this is hard. There is a lot of bands. The best thing we could do is to release the best music we can. This way, things can work. We like how are things going fo us right now, so we will keep playing live and release music.

– Have you ever played in Spain or would you like to do so?
No, not yet, but we are still looking to manage a short european tour and Spain is possible.

– What would you say to someone that never heard nothing from you?
Give our music a spin. I know it’s hard to listen to all the music released right now in the progressive world. But maybe you will discover something unexpected!
